“ASMR helps with stress, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, among other benefits. I have been approached by one or more people who have told me that my ASMR has helped them with each of these issues”
HOW WAS YOUR FIRST ASMR EXPERIENCE?
I was listening to my teacher read a story and it just happened. I felt a pleasant rise of wavy tingles in my scalp and face. I had no idea what it was or why it was happening, but I knew immediately that it was enjoyable and fleeting. I stayed and still as possible while it happened. It probably lasted only 10-15 seconds.
AND THE FIRST TIME YOU WATCHED AN ACTUAL ASMR VIDEO?
I had googled out of the blue something like “why do I feel tingly when I get my hair brushed?” and an ASMR hair brushing video was the first result
“ I had never DREAMED that the tingles could be triggered like that “
I watched a few more videos right away, and I admit I felt a little strange and self-conscious watching young women tap on brushes, pull tape off a roll, and whisper to me about spa treatments.
“ It took me a while to overcome these feelings and just let the videos work their magic.”
WHY DID YOU START AS AN ASMRTIST?
ASMR had become such an important part of my life that I wanted to give back to the community. I started small; I just wanted to help at least one other person. It wasn’t long before I met that goal. I was pretty shocked by how many followers, likes, comments, and DMs I accrued each day/week/month. I’m still shocked and super humbled.
ASMR connects our minds, thoughts, feelings, perceptions, emotions to a powerful and beneficial psychological response. i t’s amazing to hear about, but I’ve experienced it too. It’s improved the quality of my sleep, made my clinical depression more manageable, and even helped reduce my blood pressure.
“Gosh I love ASMR, and I’m so happy to be able to share it with others!”
I don’t have a specific vision for my ASMR. I know I want to continue creating and watching. I hope to improve my techniques in order to help more people. I just hope that my involvement in the community, no matter how small, can help push the whole thing forward and bring ASMR even deeper into the public psyche.
